Sports Funding

Why are sports important?

Physical activity has numerous benefits for children and young people’s physical health, as well as their mental wellbeing (increasing self-esteem and emotional wellbeing and lowering anxiety and depression), and children who are physically active are happier, more resilient and more trusting of their peers. Ensuring that pupils have access to sufficient daily activity can also have wider benefits for pupils and schools, improving behaviour as well as enhancing academic achievement.

Swimming

National expectations are that by the end of Year 6 every child needs to be able to swim 25m.  At Bishopswood Junior School we have swimming lessons in Year 4 at Tadley Swimming Pool.  You can also support your child by taking them swimming at local leisure centres/swimming pools and enrolling them in swimming courses.

P.E. and Sports Premium Funding

The P.E. and Sports Premium funding is additional funding given to publicly funded primary-age schools to assist schools improve the quality of the P.E and sports activities they are able to offer their pupils. The amount of funding any school receives is dependent on how many pupils are eligible for the funding based on data from the January school census.

The Federation is provided with a lump sum with additional funding on a per-pupil basis depending on the number of eligible pupils on-roll for the January census.  The Head of Federation and the governing body then decides how the money is used to support the children's sports and P.E. activities.

All schools are required to report on the amount of funding received, how it is used and the impact of the work undertaken.
